Staying In Love: Even After Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day, in all its commercialized glory, will come and go, but at the end of the day it’s just you and your soulmate. We all know that being in love is one of the very best feelings in the world. Everyone wants to keep the spark alive in their relationship. But as time goes on, couples can get stuck in a rut.
I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day. The overcrowded restaurants, overpriced flowers, and the hype is just too much in my opinion. I am constantly thinking that one should show this much appreciation for each other EVERYDAY, not just once a year.
With all that being said (and pushing my biases aside), join me in looking at Valentine’s Day with fresh eyes. Let’s look at it as a special time when you can inject something fresh into your relationship.
Below are 3 Quick Tips to help you stay in love long after Valentine’s Day is over!
- Do the Unusual. People get in to fixed leisure habits – they go dancing, to the movies, watch TV at home, and maybe spend the occasional week or two away at a resort. And that’s not enough! Have new experiences together that are outside your normal routine, and preferably with a challenge involved.
- Do Your Partner’s Chore. If you want to put some relationship credit “in the bank,” try spontaneously taking over a chore for your mate (especially if it’s an odious one). He usually cleans out the garage? Do it for him as a surprise. She takes the dog out in the morning? You get up and take him with a smile. Small and positive things like this make a huge difference over the years.
- Kiss hello before doing anything else when you get home. Kiss good-bye when you leave. It’s always just the sweetest if he/she has to go to work extra-early, but stops by to kiss you quickly while trying not to wake you. Or when he/she walks you to the door when you head out. And an immediate kiss when you reunite at the end of the day means you care about each other above all else.
